Our Idiot Brother is a 2011 film directed by Jesse Peretz and starring Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel, and Emily Mortimer. The script was written by Evegenia Peretz and David Schisgall based on Jesse and Evgenia Peretz's story, and tells of an idealistic man who intrudes and wreaks havoc in each of his three sisters' lives.
The film was co-produced by Anthony Bregman, Peter Saraf and Marc Turtletaub, and came into production unusually quickly for an independent film; principal photography had ended less than four months after the script was picked up by the producers. Filming took place over six weeks, primarily in various parts of New York City. The film premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival and is scheduled for a theatrical release in 2011.

Plot
Ned (Rudd) is a well-meaning idealist who has just been released from prison for dealing cannabis. In succession, he disrupts the lives and homes of his three sisters: career-driven Miranda (Banks), who is about to get her big break in journalism; bisexual hipster Natalie (Deschanel), whose lies are preventing her from moving forward with her responsible girlfriend Cindy (Rashida Jones); and Liz (Mortimer), who is too concerned with being the perfect mother to notice that her marriage is falling apart.
